CLARIFYING BUSINESS DIRECTION: EXECUTIVE COACHING CASE STUDY

CASE STUDY

When Corey Leckie left the corporate world to build his own company, autonomy and ownership were the primary drivers. For several years the business delivered exactly that.

As the company matured, the operating model began to create friction. The work started to “feel like factory work,” with demand fluctuating between busy periods and slower stretches. During peak periods he often accepted projects that did not fully align with his vision for the company.

He wanted to clarify the direction of the business and strengthen how decisions were made so the work aligned more closely with the company he wanted to build.

Why Executive Coaching Now

Corey had been circling several strategic decisions for months without reaching clear conclusions.

He wanted structured space to step back from the pace of the business, clarify what actually mattered and make decisions that would move the company forward.

He also wanted to work with someone who understood the realities of running a company. He chose to work with me because I have built and exited a business myself and integrate leadership development with practical operating experience.

The Engagement Focus

Corey selected my Reset & Realign program, a focused six-week engagement consisting of three intensive coaching sessions.

Our work centered on clarifying his core values, defining a clear future direction and translating those insights into concrete priorities for how he leads and where the business should focus.

The Leadership Shift

Through the engagement, Corey’s leadership approach became more deliberate and grounded.

Key shifts included:

Values-based decision clarity: Corey clarified the hierarchy of his personal values and identified trust and creativity as central drivers of how he wanted to lead and build his company.

Clearer prioritization: Alignment with the right clients and projects became the filter for evaluating opportunities.

Faster decision-making: Decisions he had been revisiting for months moved forward quickly once priorities became clear.

More regulated leadership under pressure: Corey began integrating short meditation practices into his workday, which reduced urgency-driven reactions and improved decision quality during stressful moments.

These shifts reduced the internal churn around competing priorities and allowed him to focus on the work that created real momentum.

The Business Impact

As Corey clarified how he wanted to lead the business, several practical shifts followed.

Clearer strategic direction: He defined his ideal customer and began reshaping his service offerings to align with that market.

Improved allocation of time: Corey determined that approximately 40 percent of his time should focus on consistent client work while 60 percent would support strategic and creative initiatives.

Faster execution on new initiatives: With a clearer vision of the future he wanted to build, Corey began moving forward on a new venture he had previously delayed.

Reduced internal drag in decision-making: A key insight from the work, “it’s easier than you think,” became a practical reference point that helped him move decisions forward instead of revisiting them repeatedly.

The direction of the business did not require a complete rebuild. Corey needed clarity on how he wanted to lead it and a structure that aligned with that direction.
